Gait Disorders
One of the functions of the foot is to carry the burden of the body. The gait disorder affects the spine and leads to posture deformities. These deformities can occur as genetic, congenital as well as in childhood, as a consequence of wearing deformed shoes. In the following periods it may cause knee, hip, waist and back pain.
There are two basic curves in a healthy foot. One is longitudinal that extands from back to front and the other is transversal right behind fingers and extands from inside to outside. In a healthy gait longitudinal curve should touch the ground. The foot, in each gait, makes a flexion movement from the heel to the front part of the foot, allowing the body to spring and distribute the load. The body weight transmitted from the hip to the hip to the heel is carried along the outer edge of the foot to the thumb joint. If there is a disruption on this system, deformities and pain can occur on the foot.
Externally, there are three different formation of foot would be observed. High curve, flat curve and normal curve. Flat Footed (Flat Curve) try to overcome this problem by stepping inside and high curves stepping outward. Since the load can not be evenly distributed, deformation in the finger bones and calluses in various regions of the foot can be seen. The analyst must be an orthopedist, a podiatrist, and a podologist. During analysis the person’s feet must be examined while on the move. The angles and forces that occur in the foot joints should be measured and the individual life styles of the patient such as diabetic foot injury, post-operative gait functions, sportive performance, developed callus and similar skin problems should be taken in to consideration for designing a sole plate. After the age of 3 years any one can benefit of this analysis.
Special sole plates for individuals have an important role in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders and provide daily life comforts for those who have long standing or sports activities. The most important detail in the preparation of the plates is the planning of the hardness of the base. The difference between standard plates is that this insulator is directed to the problem of the person. Ready made insoles, silicone products, and shoes are totally different because of the difference in foot and finger, there is no success for treatment. The custom made insoles can not be used by the different person with the same disorder or by a person wearing same shoes size.
The smooth and regular use of these professionally prepared insoles is of great importance for the treatment of the individual and for improving the comfort of life.
